Need help to quit smoking?
The Illinois Tobacco Quitline, 1-866-QUIT-Yes (1-866-784-8937), provides free, confidential counseling and support to tobacco users through all stages of the quitting process. The Quitline is staffed by Addiction Specialists, Respiratory Therapists and Registered Nurses trained at the Mayo clinic. These specially trained staff can provide ongoing support through the process of quitting. The Quitline hours are Monday through Friday, from 7am to 9 pm and translation services are available in 150 languages.
Over 9 years of operation, the Quitline has achieved a success rate showing 43% of callers have either cut down or quit, with 17% who cut down and 26% who quit.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also has a hotline for smoking cessation. The number to call is 1-800-QUIT-NOW or 1-800-784-8669. The CDC provides FREE quitting coach, free quit plan, free education materials, and free referrals to local resources.
Want to file a Smoking Complaint
In July 2007, the Governor signed the Smoke-free Illinois Act into law, making Illinois the 22nd state to be smoke-free. The Act, which took effect on January 1, 2008, prohibits smoking in public places, places of employment and government vehicles. It also prohibits smoking within fifteen (15) feet of any entrance and/or exit, window that opens, or ventilation system to a public place or place of employment.
The Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department (FWBCHD), per the Smoke-free Illinois Act, is authorized to enforce this Act within its jurisdiction. FWBCHD will be responding to complaints regarding businesses. Both the FWBCHD and Law Enforcement can respond to business complaints.
To file a smoking complaint, this can be done anonymously through the Illinois Department of Public Health website (www.smoke-free.illinois.gov) or complaint line (866-973-4646 or 800-547-0466 (hearing impaired use only)). Complaints of smoking received from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), via the IDPH toll-free complaint line or via the web will be accessible through the IDPH Intranet by the FWBCHD Tobacco Prevention Coordinator. A smoking complaint may also be filed through the Tobacco Prevention Coordinator at FWBCHD.
